A solo journaling map-making RPG about caring for a place that matters.

The players remember the score.

You remember the field.

The Groundskeeper is a solo RPG about one long day preparing, watching over, and repairing a field before an important game.

You’ll draw your own field from scratch—adding lines, mowing patterns, logos, landmarks, and the small details that make it yours. Then playing cards and 2d6 bring people, memories, weather, wear, and unexpected moments onto the map.

By the end of the game, the field won’t look the way it did when you started.

That’s the point.

HOW IT PLAYS

Your day unfolds across four phases:

Dawn Inspection → Preparation → The Game → Repairs

Draw cards to discover what happens and journal about the people, memories, and problems connected to the field.

As the day continues, draw directly onto your map. Add worn grass, puddles, footprints, celebrations, damage, repairs, and anything else the story leaves behind.

After the game, you have only Eight Walks.

Each Walk lets you return to one part of the field and decide what to repair, clean up, preserve, or simply leave alone.

You can’t fix everything.

Some things become scars.

YOU’LL NEED

• A standard deck of playing cards with Jokers
• Two six-sided dice
• Pencil and eraser
• Paper or a journal

Players: 1 Play Time: 45–90 minutes

WHEN YOU’RE DONE

Your finished field becomes a visual journal of the entire game day—a map covered in footsteps, repairs, memories, damage, and places that mattered.

Every playthrough creates a completely different field.
